My Autism Ally offers source of guidance for many in Northeast Indiana

April is National Autism Awareness Month. A local nonprofit called My Autism Ally helps assist residents in northeast Indiana affected by autism to find resources to help in any and all aspects of life. Susan Crowell, founder and executive director of My Autism Ally, began the organization out of her various life experiences. Her son was diagnosed as autistic in 2003 at two years old.

Robert H. Bremer honored with memorial at Huntertown Fire Department

March 2022 — The Northwest News

Robert H. Bremer, the longest serving member of the Huntertown Fire Department, passed away on Feb. 4, 2022 at the age of 95. A full honor memorial service was held on March 26. His son, David Bremer, along with fellow fire department members, spoke about Bremer's life and how theirs were impacted by him.

Former Vice President Pence joins veterans for ride in Fort Wayne

October 2021 — The Northwest News

Former Vice President Mike Pence joined in on the "Trail to Zero" ride in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Oct. 9. The "Trail for Zero" is a horse ride organized by BraveHearts, an organization with a mission to end veteran suicide. Pence gave a speech at the Veteran’s National Memorial and Museum, the last stop of the ride.

Message in a bottle sent by Calhoun family found in Tennessee

May 2021 — The McLean County News

The Hollanders, a couple in Calhoun, Kentucky in December of 1990 sent a message in a bottle. More than 30 years later, that bottle was found in Ripley, Tennessee, approximately 250 miles away. The message read: "We wanted to see how far this will go. It's almost Christmas, ho ho ho! This bottle was launched from Calhoun, KY. 12-21-90."

McLean County 911 dispatch awarded grant to upgrade equipment

May 2021 — The McLean County News

The McLean County 911 dispatch received an $89K grant to upgrade their equipment that had been deemed not usable for pubic safety. This article discusses what parts of the system would be upgraded and what the upgrades would allow dispatch to do that they had not been able to do prior.

Lt. Gov. discusses two-year $38B state budget, impacts of southwest Indiana

April 2021 — The Warrick County Standard

I sat down with Indiana Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch to discuss the two-year state budget at the end of the 2021 Indiana legislative session. We discussed how the budget would impact residents in southwest Indiana.

WCSD warns of increase in fraudulent phone calls

Fraud and scam phone calls have been a major issue for Americans over the last couple of years. I spoke with the Warrick County Sheriff about how local residents could combat those calls and how to report them, and what to do if someone had fallen victim to one.

Boonville Fire Department unveils new Safe Haven Baby Box

March 2021 — The Warrick County Standard

The Boonville Fire Department worked with Safe Haven Baby Boxes to install a box at their location. Safe Haven Baby Boxes is an organization that installs the boxes at emergency services locations to “prevent illegal abandonment of newborns by raising awareness, offering a 24-hour hotline for mothers in crisis and offering a last resort option for women.” I spoke with a mother who adopted her child through a Safe Haven Baby Box and her experience through the process.

Healthy at Home Eviction Relief program reopens

March 2021 — The McLean County News

I spoke to Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman about the statewide Healthy at Home Eviction Relief program set up to aide residents during COVID-19. The program offered financial support to landlords and tenants who needed assistance in making monthly finance and rent payments, as well as utility companies.

January 2019 — The Flor-Ala

This article is a combined work with myself and former Flor-Ala Editor-in-Chief Harley Duncan on a recap of the year the University of North Alabama newspaper staff had with the university's administration. During the 2018-19 school year, we covered a variety of topics covered in this article from the censure placed on the university by the College Media Association to emails and lack of emails on topics from the change in the advisor's job description and moving student publications to the Department of Communications.

Gaston found in violation of Title IX policies, report recommends termination

December 2018 — The Flor-Ala

Dr. Gregory Gaston, one of the University of North Alabama's former professors, was found to be in violation of Title IX policies and was sent a letter of termination. This is a story I worked on with the Editor-in-Chief Harley Duncan. We spoke to the student who filed the report, along with Title IX coordinator Tammy Jacques. This was the first time the student came forward to reveal their identity and publicly state what happened to her.

University talks change of marching band nickname

September 2018 — The Flor-Ala

The University of North Alabama's marching band was informally nicknamed "The Pride of Dixie" before making the change to "The Marching Pride." During the halftime show on Sept. 8, 2018 at Alabama A&M, a historically Black university, the band's nickname was shortened to "The Pride," omitting the word "Dixie." Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Ross Alexander said UNA has a tradition of being a "very inclusive and progressive university."
